My goodness, compare the form and posture of the Russians to everyone else on a basic "posy" picture and you can see where they spend training time. I remember watching the Russians do their warm up progressions before some competition and it was like watching the Bolshoi ballet.

Stanford is an academics first school, I can't imagine them being supportive of her just arriving on campus and then taking off for an international competition, even if it is Worlds. Not saying it was their decision, but probably a factor.
