That's good to see for Oprea. Thanks for the links.

But aren't the NCAA departures (Barbosu añd Ghigoarta at least) planning to keep going with elite anyway? That's what the FRG press release said.

Romania does so little international competition outside Euros, World and Olympics these days that I'm not sure we'll see much less of them.

I think the assumption now is that the three will all try to juggle both, but we have no idea how that will go in reality with all the travel, adjustment, missing their entire offseason, etc..

At the very least having actually usable depth (it was abysmal by the time Paris rolled around with injuries, I don't think they even named an alternate when the procedures said they'd name two IIRC) never hurts

Yes definitely. Will be great to have Oprea back and I am excited about Golgota. Yes they seemed to give up on an alternate - Oprea was in the running but injured, like Ceplinschi, like Puflea ...

When I look at how much Germans and Italians seem to do in local leagues, it makes the sport seem such a different experience from one country to another, even for elites. Really hope NCAA will be good for them.

Speaking of Ceplinschi, this week she posted some basic tumbling and a Yurchenko timer! She needed another ankle surgery after forcing that ankle against all hope to compete at the last two Olympic trials

Ioana Danciu seemed really motivated to make LA28, and TVR did a feature on her in a series about LA28 hopefuls, but she retired early this year :( She had stunning form on UB/BB/FX and was really ramping up the difficulty for the 2024 Euros trials before a knee injury. Was also training two eponymous elements (switch ring mount, front aerial 2/1 dismount)

It appears as if Ioana Stanciulescu (who surprisingly competed VT UB BB at November nationals) is also retired, as are Puflea and Duta

FRG is pretty secretive about injuries, but I was at Szombathely 2023 and saw Duta's retrospectively career ending injury - her knee bent backwards ~50° on a double Arabian after it had already looked very scary the week prior at nationals too. She was on the start list for November nationals last year, but I heard she got injured again in warmup

That is one upsetting description. I'm not surprised she never managed to fully return!
