Oh yeah, in that context, absolutely a national team coach. Tatiana? Tammy?

I lean towards it being Tatianna.

Her coach once sneaked a bowl of broccoli to her hotel room during a competition just so she could have something to fill her stomach.

Well that's quite something.

There’s a lot to digest after reading that.
But I genuinely can’t believe she was able to do gymnastics at all on what she was eating. I’m not sure I’d make it through a day of work on that! Let alone intense training.
I sincerely hope that current gymnasts are much more knowledgeable about nutrition. As someone mentioned, it’s likely she looked puffy (if she even did, which is questionable) because her poor body wasn’t functioning and was reacting poorly to all the stress put on it.

It‘s not all that uncommon in gymnastics. It doesn’t involve sustained aerobic activity so the calorie requirements are relatively low.

Statements like this make me shudder. I know it’s not intentional, but it glorifies and justifies disordered eating by framing a gymnast’s achievements “in spite of eating so little”. it is something that is still unfortunately weaponised by coaches and made into competition.

I don’t think there was much in the book that wasn’t already known On some level. Again, highlighted how many people let down the gymnasts in so many ways.
im glad Maggie seems to be happier and successful now.

That puffiness comment really highlights how one-note USAG was at the time. Like, zero consideration of whether the athlete might have a medical issue, or whether it's just some water retention. Nope, yer fat.
