I always forget Ruby S was at worlds '21 (but then I always forget worlds '21 happened at all, the covid timeline was wild). If I remember correctly, she was injured for a while, so glad to see her back.

The Roper twins competing for two different nations at the same competition was quite a thing.

There’s been a bit of nationality switching from England home nations squad to Wales over the last few years. At one point Emily Roper competed for England at the Northern European Championships whilst her twin Abi Roper was there at the same competition competing for Wales. I wonder if that’s the first time in gymnastics a set of twins have competed for different nations.

Frances Stone was also on the England squad a couple of years ago and switched to the Wales home nations squad. From the looks of it, the Welsh squad seems to offer more opportunities to compete and then there’s the fact that selection to the Welsh team for Commonwealth Games might be a big lure.

Would love to see it. They must fancy themselves as contenders, and CWG is better when more than 3 teams have a chance.

On the Welsh point, I'd assumed it must be one or both of CWG eligibility, especially for those who couldn't assume they'd make major GB teams, and funding.

I am pretty sure that Welsh athletes on the GB national team get both GB funding and funding from Wales.

Welsh squad is preferable to England squad because England squad isn't funded. They have to pay upfront for the squad training weekends, kit and any competitions they attend. Also Wales competes at better and more competitions and the chance to do CWG is particuarly appealing as England at the CWG is drawn from the main GB squad.

Welsh squad and England squad aren’t really comparable. As you say, the England squad isn’t funded but unlike the Welsh squad, you can’t also be in the British squad
