OFFICIAL STATEMENT
The Romanian Gymnastics Federation confirms that it has taken note today, April 28, 2026, of the completion of an administrative procedure by the International Testing Agency (ITA) regarding the athlete Ana-Maria Bărbosu.
The procedure concerns a possible violation of the provisions of art. 2.4 of the World Anti-Doping Code, regulated by the World Anti-Doping Agency, regarding the obligations of location and availability for controls (Whereabouts Failures).
The Federation emphasizes that this type of misconduct does not involve the detection of a prohibited substance, but rather administrative aspects regarding compliance with reporting procedures.
To date, Ana-Maria Bărbosu has not been suspended. The athlete has the right to formulate her defense for each of the three situations retained, which, cumulatively, may constitute a Whereabouts Failure type misconduct.
At this time, although there is a proposed sanction, the athlete benefits from all the rights provided for by international regulations, including the right to defense and to challenge the decision before the competent courts.
The case is being managed internationally by the International Testing Agency, on behalf of the International Gymnastics Federation, in accordance with applicable procedures.
The Romanian Gymnastics Federation respects the confidential nature of the procedure, provides institutional support to the athlete and fully cooperates with the competent bodies.
Out of respect for the athlete and for the integrity of the process, the Federation will not make any further comments until a final decision is rendered.
Thank you for your understanding.
