I just looked back at the results, and I think I had forgotten how good she really was. She didn't win an AA medal in 52, and got silver behind Latynina in 56, but it really was just because of her vaults.

Check out all the medals she won (pulled from Wikipedia). Double floor champion — that's big time. And to think that she was 31 and 35 and could have gotten maybe 9 or 10 more if she had been able to compete in 1940 and 1944, at a time when she had already established herself as a top gymnast in other competitions. (She was injured in 1948.) 19 medals would have surpassed Latynina.
