I don't follow NCAA at all, but have popped into some of these commitment threads. I didn't realize at first they were just during visits and not for signing. Some of the photos seem weird for me for someone who hasn't yet signed (all of the throne photos; but those are just weird to me to begin with).
Yes, a lot of the NCAA culture rubs me the wrong way.

Does anyone else find the involved official visit photo shoots to be a lot for recruitment? I know everyone does it but it just always strikes me as so over-the-top.
In the age of social media, it's a good tool so the recruits have something to post when the are announced and helps them envision themselves as part of the team.

The entire visit is over the top so it's just a fit of fun alongside it all.

Yeah, I think it can seem over the top in isolation, but it's very much in keeping with social media culture and how to hype up an accomplishment. Committing to a major NCAA team is a huge goal that these gymnasts have worked their entire lives for! But I get how it's easy to see it all as quite silly lol.

I can certainly see how it would help them envision themselves as a part of the team. Personally I feel like I would feel so awkward if I ended up with three or four sets of photos in different teams' uniforms and then had to pick one. I am sure that reaction varies, but it still seems to be a lot to me.
Then again, clearly I never tried for college, and I quit the sport, or at least stepped away from competition, before I got to that life stage, so it's not something I can directly relate to.

I'm in the camp of why be so condescending about these? I mean I get from one point of view they seem overdone and excessive, but try another point of view where it is a celebration of an accomplishment, and capturing some of the spirit and excitement of competing for that school. That's what these visits are intended to be, to give the recruit a projection of "if you competed for us". If you are a foreign national I can see this concept being completely odd since University in all other countries dont have that sport attachment. Idk, unless you are a total introvert its pretty fun to be given vip treatment and center of attention and glamorous photo shoot, let them have fun, they earned it.
