Ski mountaineering is not quite as cool as I hoped it would be (coming in, not knowing anything). I think the staircase is the problem and how short each run was. If the stairs looked like mountain rocks and were about 5 stories longer... but a 2:40ish run feels...lacking. maybe I want a ski mountaineering marathon.

I agree - I was expecting them to go up a mountain on skis like the cross country skiers sometimes do when they zigzag from the bottom to the top of an alpine hill. The running part just seemed a bit meh

This is the thing, she hasn’t turned up again. She’s here as a Georgian national who is an accredited member of the Georgian delegation as the personal coach of Georgian skater Nika Egadze. And I guess in a personal capacity too as mother and mother in law of the Georgian ice dance pair. Absolutely nothing to do with the Eteri Tutberidze who was involved in the Kamila Valieva debacle. And also nothing to do with the Eteri Tutberidze who was denied AIN status.

Maybe I need two separate usernames, Russian MC and British MC.

I will post more about the skating tomorrow. I haven’t witnessed live in person top level skating since Sochi. I’d forgotten just how much pride and emotion goes into the performance. They all looked like they really loved what they are doing. It made me feel a bit sad for gymnastics.

Mr MC enjoyed women’s hockey more than he thought he would. I mean, he’s still a fully paid up member of the patriarchy but he was definitely impressed/intimidated

I'm watching it now and for crying out loud, Carmen tells you how and when to move, and yet, she's just kinda there. Hits some beats, but without the emphasis and attitude the music calls for. Not sure if she just doesn't have it in her, or the choreography is to blame, but that was one of the blah-est Carmens I ever seen.

Daniil Gleiklhengauz of Team Tutberidze too. He was Adeliia Petrosian's neutral coach. He's on board with abusive coaching and doping.

I figured that the real reason was that they had to pick one of them and they thought Daniil G. was a better choice for Petrossian.

AIN athletes can only have 1 coach and the coach must also have AIN status. But only coaches from Russia and Belarus can apply for AIN status…

She is the long time personal coach of Nika Egadze. If she was just there as a parent she would not have official accreditation. There was an audible boo in the arena when the audience clocked her. It was hilarious

A group of kids from a figure skating club sat near me at worlds. They expressed mild shock and horror when Tutberidze appeared on the jumbotron. The kids view her as a movie villain.

Canada men's hockey just advanced to the gold medal game after narrowly defeating Finland (thus destroying the dream of a Finland-Slovakia gold medal match).

If I'd been watching hockey during these Olympics I'd for sure have heart problems by now.
