Speaking of honesty, I watched part of the senior floor final with my 11 year-old, and she asked if the gymnasts actually practice their choreography, or if they make it up on the spot.

Only Esponda did two vaults. Not many did, they only had 7 in those finals. Anyone who did 2 vaults qualified. Reese could have won gold if she hit her DTY and whatever the second vault was. I wonder if she is trying to go for a Lopez and tucked it because of her hand placement in team.

Bullock getting a 14 at an international meet keeps her in major running for Worlds. They will need another bar worker.

Depending on what Jones is up to, it could be Pease, Rivera, Bullock for team finals on bars. Of course that means Pease and Rivera are healthy and make Worlds.

Esponda looks like someone in the mix too as VT/FX potentially.

She's never competed a second vault, iirc. She didn't do two at Winter Cup. So who knows what she was actually going for.

What is going on with Manolo? It looked like she couldn't give two Efs. One of those falls on beam seemed Komova-esque (from my vantage point) where it looked like she could have saved it if she tried.

I had to rewatch competition replays after seeing this post just to inspect people's footwear. It looks like Crocs are becoming more common among gymnasts on the competition floor. He's the only coach I saw wearing them though. We've come a long way since that company was on life support.

I'm not sure that these US team members will feature at Worlds unless as the odd event specialist - possibly Bullock. They only hung on to TF gold by 0.133 thanks to Colas making 3 errors on FX.

Depth seems to be an issue for the US - obviously they will be OK if Hezley, Shilese, Claire, Leanne Josc, Jordan? etc are healthy and in good form. But these days the US doesn't have a strong B team ready to step in - too many are stuck in the 12.5-13.5 zone. It is strange to think that the US used to rule the world on VT only had one gymnast capable of a DTY at this meet and even then she crashed it in EF. Are most of these elites just biding time until NCAA?

Maybe? Simone Rose goes to college this fall, Reese Esponda the year after. I had high hopes for Moreau, but if she's got a mental block about twisting, she's never going to get past where she is now. Krob is fringe at best.

The problem isn't so much that the US doesn't have a decent B team, it's that they don't even have replacements for the current A team in the pipeline--an A team that is, frankly, old. Shilese, Leanne, and Jordan are now in their 3rd quad of being senior eligible. The new seniors haven't shown they're remotely capable of challenging them, Claire is hit or miss or injured, and none of the juniors look like potential future world AA medalists.

Bullock has potential and might put it all together, but she's also shown herself to be wildly inconsistent.

Yeah, it's really an aging field and no juniors have handled the move to senior very well at all. We haven't seen Jones in a while so I'm hesitant to include her at all, but it's crazy that the 2nd-AA gymnast at Nationals in 2017 is arguably the top AAer today. And her name isn't Simone Biles.

Lavi Crain could surprise us as well espcially now that she has shifted to WCC.
