Yes thank you @Kara . I love sending all the leotard photos to my colleagues. One of them, who’d be well known to you all, remarked of Melnikova’s green leotard that it was hideous and like something Svetlana Khorkina would have worn….

I have to admit when I saw Melnikova in that green and black leotard my first thought was "ah, she's shown up dressed as the villain, great sense of humour!" I imagine that wasn't the aim, but based on what I knew many of the responses would be to her on reddit, it made me laugh that she'd shown up in (to me at least) distinctly villain-coded colours for the AA final.

Melnikova has her own line of leotards for a few years now. With the Italian manufacturer that does Italy’s national team leotards. So we can assume she designed it, and indeed most of the leotards we have seen her wear have been her own designs. I would not say that slime green is a particularly melnikova style colour. Maybe she wanted to stand out and figured no one else would have that colour.

I believe she was right on both counts! And to be fair, she can carry off the colour scheme in a way that many couldn't.

I would love to see the US women in leos similar to the US men’s singlets from Worlds. You could sequin them up some and they’d be a really lovely combo of sporty and glittery.

Same. That one and the blue that Kameron Nelson is wearing in the pic were ones I was thinking of that would make really great women’so leos. Put some sparkles on the stripes and you could really have something nice looking. Or hell leave them as-is and they’d be sporty but it seems like it would be sacrilege to have the women in a competition leotard without a million rhinestones…
