What junior results did Yulo have? I thought she was injured the whole time and contemplated quitting. That’s why the choice was surprising considering the skills she was showing. Disappointing choices
She did not compete at Batang Pinoy 2024 and GAP Challenge 2025. And other than Haylee Garcia, none of the contingent that went to Korea was even considered! So I was (Scratching my head) on that choice!

Multiple countries are using this Worlds to give opportunities to other gymnasts, not just their very best.

Alice D'Amato and Manila Esposito are being rested and the focus is on the younger athletes and building depth. Both gymnasts could have won multiple medals here and IMO Esposito was the favorite for AA gold.

You don't really know the rationale for each federation's selection.

If fielding a full team to Los Angeles is the federation goal, giving an opportunity to younger talent in need of experience might be the route to take, especially when there is no team event.
Its obvious that that is not their goal coz Finnegan and Malabuyo are both competing. We shall see how Eliza Yulo do. I hope she does not fall flat on her face or embarrass herself and the country. Good luck to all the athletes.

It's not obvious. Finnegan and Malabuyo going is like Asia D'Amato going. But leaving Esposito and Alice at home to make room for inexperienced athletes is. Yulo is inexperienced that could be why she is going plus she actually LIVES in Philippines. The other three are Americans.

Interesting discussion about the Israeli delegation and appeals but seriously, this edition of. the World Championships is already marred with so much drama that nullifying results isn't even a stretch anymore. Just praying that it will be safe for all participants. I thought Team USA was already in Jakarta but I guess they chose a safer venue in Japan to train.

Also, Yulo didn't compete at the Asian Champs earlier this year while some of the other PHI-based athletes did. Maybe the fed just wants everyone to get some experience. Not really understanding the Yulo hostility here

Sure but we all know they are born and raised in the US and in the US gymnastics system

Not all of them, I believe. Even Yulo trained at GAGE for some time. There's a noticeable increase in athletes with dual nationality, seems fair to acknowledge them as part of the nation they chose to represent without the third degree.

Our forum's purpose is to be a place to discuss gymnastics and things related to gymnastics because the internet already has thousands of places to discuss political and humanitarian issues. To be fair, threads like this are always challenging: when is a specific comment "on topic" vs. "off topic"? There's gray area, and we usually try to be generous with as well as set a line or two in advance so that it avoids getting hairy.

That has happened in this thread, and both Robin and Robin, as moderators, already pointed to concerns about what's on-topic vs. what's outside of what we do here. The deletion of posts by RedBirdie was consistent with what was said earlier, and it was intended to prevent additional talk about the conflict itself so that this thread could focus on the participation of the Israeli athletes and Indonesia and FIG's approaches.

I understand that you may an Off Topic forum, but that's not in the cards for us here. There are many here who don't want it, and they're basing it on years of experience at various forums, gymnastics and otherwise. This thread may not have been detrimental to you, but it has already caused some people stress even with the limits we've tried to observe.

We have a goal and we're trying to stick to it.

Thanks everyone.
Here.

and none of them actually live in the Philippines or have renounced US citizenship. I rest my case. American b team. I don't have a problem because they all have distinct ties to that country, I have more of a problem when there used to be no ties but money talked. However let's not fool ourselves that these are Philippino athletes they are not but they are just eligable to represent them. Representing USA would have been their first choice. I think it is great to include a genuine home athlete on their team.

You are incorrect but we are off topic. With all the drama brought by not including the Israeli team and the inclusion of the Russians, this edition of the World Championships will bring surprises, I feel like. Excited to see Dulcy and Leanne shine and finally see Skye do what she can do. I’m sure Joscelyn will light up that floor with her tumbling. The US men will also be exciting to watch!
