The standard in 05 was possibly held up a bit by the use of an old code. There wasn't the growing pains you usually get while everyone is still working out the kinks.

Agree 09 wasn't much cop. Another one that was impacted by some top gymnasts peaking earlier in the year. I'd really hoped the Ksenias and Huang Qiushuang would be in the mix for medals, based on performances going in.

I think it would be cool if the World Championships after Worlds had a difficulty cap of 5.0 on every apparatus.

4.8 E-score, with a 0.2 bonus for creativity.

It would allow athletes to water down — and save their bodies a bit — but still reward the very best gymnasts. Team, AA, even apparatus finals this way.

Am I weird for liking the post-Olympic Worlds? I know it's taken a turn since three decades ago but 1993 and 1997 are among my favorites. I'll never forgive the sport for not having Worlds in 1998.
Yes, dear. Yes you are. LOL.

All kidding aside, yeah, 93 Worlds and 97 Worlds were good meets.
So were 2005 and 2013 Worlds — strong fields.
I even think that 2001 was good despite the fact that gymnasts were trying to figure out the biggest shift in the COP ever made along with a new vaulting apparatus.

Actually 2001 was not so good for the men's competition...

Lots of team announcements lately. Singapore is sending the tried and true but disappointed with the Philippines 4th spot - Finnegan, Malabuyo and Garcia are good choices but Yulo? Watched her latest video and the difficulty and execution isn't there. So disappointed. What happened to their NCAAs athletes (Ruivivar, Kvamme etc) and recruits (Supnet, Nyland) that can at least show skills? Elaiza Yulo? Nepo choice? but then again it is a corrupt country. Was really hoping they'd send a decent contingent. At least Finnegan is there.

Jung-Ruivivar likely did not attempt to make the team. She red-shirted her freshman year at Stanford last year and unenrolled from the school.
She's back there now and back on the roster. But possibly she was not in elite routine shape.

Kvamme, not sure, maybe she is focused on her NCAA routines/college courses.

Finnegan and Malabuyo no longer have NCAA eligibility.

That said, you can still do both NCAA and elite if you want. Skye Blakely and Josc Roberson are evidence of that going to Worlds this month but also getting ready for upcoming NCAA season.

Would it not be sensible to bring a new (home grown?) senior in at this stage in the quad, alongside the dual nationality veterans? Surely this is how you advance a programme? And Yulo's 2024 junior results were respectable.

I think it’s really important to have gymnasts from the island at Worlds. Yulo I’m assuming is the best option.

Yes I think also the relative proximity compared with other locations is a factor too. Had worlds been in Europe this year, they may not have sent a full delegation
