Easily her best of the season, I have 8.7E, but instead gets 8.1...lower than Melninoka, who had worse pirouettes, worse van leeuwen, and her typical wonky bent arm jaeger. Just absolutely fraudulent reputation based judging.
To give more detail to this, judging each routine:

Skye has perfect cast handstands and full pirouettes and pak (which is very surprising given how it's been all season), no deductions there. The rest:

.1 feet .1 bent arm Church, .1 feet .1 amplitude Downie, .1 legs .1 feet Van leeuwen, .3 angle Toe 1/2, .1 legs L-grip giant, .1 legs .1 step .1 feet apart on landing (this is ultra strict and probably shouldn't be taken) Dismount. I could perhaps see a judge thinking .3 for legs on the dismount (.3 really should be reserved for more of a cowboy than this), but that's still 8.5E. You have to fabricate other deductions to get her lower. There was nothing wrong with her "flow" or some other bullshit reasoning.

Melnikova's routine has:

.1 angle Inbar 1/1, .3 legs Van Leeuwen, .1 legs .1 alignment Inbar 1/2 (and this is an example of something where you could actually deduct for a flaw in the flow, but I still don't think it's merited; someone holding a handstand is not an inherent flaw in the flow of a routine), .1 feet .1 legs, .1 amplitude .3 bent arms Jaeger (and a tiny grip adjust after), .1 legs .1 angle Giant 1/2, .1 legs .3 angle Toe 1/1, .1 legs Dismount (she also has a bit of crossed feet in addition to the leg separation, but I'm just taking 1 deduction). So that's 8.1E but could actually go under 8 if you apply the "standard" that is seemingly being used for most other people in the world by these judges.

Caught up through vault. Thrilled for Fontaine and devastated for Deng. Melnikova earned it, although Olly, that was not a slight leg separation--but years of Russian vaulting has shown that doesn't really matter. Kalmykova is really showing the lack of experience. All I can really say about Roberson is that "I guess" meme after watching the rest of the final.

I hope they burn this vault and don't allow Taishan vaults again.

"Slight leg separation " lol. Might be the prettiest leg separation.

Do we have concrete confirmation if Deng was pulled from the second vault by her coaches or if the judges did not allow her to do a second vault because the first vault was initiated (she used the springboard and went over the table) but there was no contact with the table?

It's probably why it took an age to get a zero score because they were consulting the rule book

  • Blakely- This was world class routine, but not quite a world medal routine. Placement is right, and this was a beautiful routine I enjoyed watching very much
  • Melnikova- Lovely routine. I wonder what it is about her body and training that lets her maintain those beautiful deep inbars
  • Visser- Again, just such a lovely routine. Barely noticed the missed connection, she kept moving so well. This bar final is a joy so far
  • McDonald- I don’t care about the rest of her routine, I’m just here for the tkachev
  • Yang- Disappointed for her as well. I’m glad she was able to keep going and got a medal, but was really rooting for her to get the silver. If only she could have controlled those little steps on the dismount better…
  • Szekely-The less said the better. She shouldn’t have been cleared here. Props to the camera for the immediate cut.
  • Vasileva-A solid routine with pretty form and room for improvement
  • Nemour-No words needed, no comparison to the rest of the field.
Lots of great bars in the final. The podium eyeballs as fine to me; I’ll let the fan judges debate the Melnikova/Yang/Blakely and enjoy and learn from the discussion.

NBC

  • I had to switch to the NBC broadcast for this one. The “but the judges will be picky” is provoking me to violence, and I loathe Laurie’s meme speak. Sam wasn’t bad.
  • I also had to laugh at Laurie “I also want to take a look at Yang Fangyuwei” and the camera immediately doing a close up of Vasileva
  • I also enjoyed Laurie and Sam’s synchronized gasps at Yang’s form break

Deng received a DNS for her first vault which makes her ineligible to attempt a second vault.

The DNS criteria are:

1. Touch springboard without execution of vault (Voinea from the 2023 World Championships is an example)

2. Run over table (This applies to Deng.)

3. If 'Empty' Run twice (Two approaches to the vaulting table without touching the springboard or apparatus
