The Georgia leo is an actual leo that you could wear in an elite competition. Is the trend changing?

KJ Johnson looks ridiculous. WTF is going on with her hair. As my husband says, "That's certainly A Choice."

The whiplash of going from Alicia Sacramone's commentary to Anastasia Webb is rough. I'm going to switch to Oklahoma-Arkansas shortly. Can't stand Webb.

Even Clemson went with an actual leotard with a normal back this week; I'd like to think the ridiculousness is coming to an end, but don't hold out much hope.

@RedBirdie I think Webb has potential. She just needs to talk less. She has the technical knowledge and points out deductions. But she's doing too much.

Also looks like it could be UGA and Bama for that 8th spot at SECs, which would be crazy considering their long time dominance of the SEC itself.

Denver with a season low 194.6 last night. Beam has been a nightmare for them this season. Arizona will be very happy with a 196.775 in January.

I expected crazier scoring from UGA/Bama, so that was a pleasant surprise. LSU's 198 was way more legit than UF's imo having seen both meets.

Arizona has a shot of finishing 2nd in the Big 12, which is where they will be ranked on Monday. In the coaches' preseason poll, they were placed 5th within the conference. They are surpassing expectations, and it's a positive that every score so far has been higher than their score from the previous meet.

I've been seeing discourse that Alabama's coaches need to be replaced. Thoughts?

I think that losing the routines from Luisa, Ella, Makarri, and now Cam was actually along the lines of Michigan losing Sierra, Gabby, and Naomi. It just wasn't framed the same way as for Michigan this season. Clearly, they need to rebuild and maybe the expectation should be that their ceiling is in the low 197's this season. I'm not sure the new 9.9+ routines are there just waiting to be coached into existence.

In my SEC breakdown, I knew they were going to dip based upon who they lost (I think I had Bama, Auburn and Georgia as the fight for the bottom). I know people inside the program. That staff is amazing and well-liked. People on the outside do not realize how toxic the previous staff was. They are recruiting well and next year have some serious ballers coming in. If another two years pass and they are still wading in the bottom then perhaps.

I know a lot of these programs are ruthless about winning, but do they have to take into account the difficulty of getting people to want to move to Alabama, even with the lure of a college scholarship? Alabama features in lots of state vs state jokes. I don't think the college ranks as low as the entire state does in education, but still, when you grow up joking about Alabama (Mississippi, West Virginia...)...

Interesting. I noticed last night that Chloe is finally in the all-around. Looking at the group that moved through from 2020 to 2024, it’s apparent Luisa becoming the all-around star that she was in 2021 was absolutely necessary for their better results.

I think Chloe leveling up AA in the second half of her sophomore season will be essential for them to be in the nationals conservation this season.

So, those fourth rotation scores at UCLA today......
Seems like every time UCLA has a home meet with a rough beam rotation, they miraculously end up with a slew of high 9.9s and 10s on floor. The fix was so obvious. Of course, they are hardly the only team with ridiculous home judging.

Yeah, UCLA getting ridiculous floor scores at home is a recurring theme.

Also with Alabama, they have highly recruited gymnasts that have not live up to their recruitment.
Shania Adams and Corinne Bunagan were highly sought after recruits and really never lived up to their gymnastics. I get injuries happen, but Adams really should have been an AA star for Bama but was super inconsistent in her career

The 2023 freshman class was the 2nd best recruited cIass in the country and hasn't shown up to this ranking. Out of Gabby Gladieux, Karis German, Lauren Little, Rachel Rybicki, Zoe Gravier, Lillian Lewis, only Gladieux has been doing her job. German (ots of injuries) has had limited appearances. Rybicki has done floor but that is all pretty much. Lillian Lewis medically retired last year, Zoe Gravier medically retired in 2023, Lauren Little basically just disappeared from NCAA gymnastics (unless I missed something).

But yeah that group should have been able to replenish the depth of the roster but other than Gladieux, it just hasn't worked out.

Additionally Jamison Sears should have also been an AA star for the Tide, she was the top rated recruit in her class and has barely competed. Apparently she was out of the start of this season due to injury.

Alabama just has been unlucky with their recruits not being able to live up to the performances they were recruited for.

Michigan State was absolutely the better team yesterday.
Oh yeah that UCLA floor line up was DEFINITELY 49.800.
Likely will cost Michigan State the regular season conference championship.
Shameful.

I had high hopes the judging wouldn't be as bad as previous years, but clearly the system is still very much broken.
