Denver vs Arkansas (and TWU) should be a great match up.
The best of Utah meet is always great, let's see if there are notes on Avery Neff.

Obviously it's still early in the season, but heading into this week, Georgia is ranked second as a team on UB! Impressive job, Cecile!

Another unexpected ranking is Stanford being 4th on FX.

Stanford are looking great so far. Anna Roberts really had a fantastic night and Sienna Robinson impressed me too.

Is Levi Jung-Ruivivar injured? All the other freshman have made their debuts so far.

I heard she's been ill.

LOL, the other head coach, who everyone seems to forget about (poor guy), coaches bars. And besides, they were already a borderline top 10 squad (49.283 NQS) last year on bars. With everyone back and some additions, I would expect to see a tenth or so added to last years average.

Yeah Georgia's best event for the last few years has been bars, especially with Lily Smith in the line up. It was their best event last year and the year before. Where they need to improve in on vault and floor, in order to compete with the SEC's top schools.
Georgia is still the bottom feeder of the SEC at the moment for me, though they could give Arkansas a run for their Razorbacks.

Right now its:
Tier 1 Oklahoma, Florida, LSU,
Tier 2 Alabama, Kentucky, Missouri, Auburn
Tier 3 Arkansas, Georgia

Pretty incredible that all SEC schools are in the top 17. SEC controls almost 50% of the "seeded" teams (1-16) to start the season.

Ya lets see how the season plays out. I think the most interesting race in the SEC is not going to be who is at the top, but who is going to be the last squad locked out of the SEC championship. I am really surprised how Arkansas looks right now, even with Roberson starting so well

Arkansas hits 197 this afternoon. 7 of 9 SEC teams hitting 197 in January. Georgia vs Mizzou fighting to not be the last SEC team to do so. Arkansas still in 9th despite today's score.

Mizzou not yet hitting 197 is a bit surprising because on 'vibes', they feel stronger than both Arkansas and Auburn.

We knew Alabama losing Mati, Ella, and Luisa would mean a new look beam lineup. I think it’s just going to be back and forth for at least the first half of the season for them on beam. They’ve never finished outside the top 4 at SEC Championships but I think this season will test that with Oklahoma’s addition.

Iowa State and Arkansas both seem to be experiencing when a team meets a major goal, returns mostly the same routines this season but they’re just not as sharp a year later in the early season. It’s going to take until NQS kicks in to see where they could rise to by post season.

Michigan State this season has to flip to a Cal-like mentality from last season: Why not us? They are good enough routine-wise so it’s going to require a mentality shift.

Stanford is my pick for the shocker so far this season. An early 197 was just unthinkable in recent past seasons. But it’s not just the performance- it’s also the scoring. So many times, a Stanford routine would be like 9.75 all season and then be evaluated in the mid 9.8’s when with other teams at Regionals. That doesn’t seem to be the case this season.

Maryland more than tripled their previous attendance record in the UCLA meet. Just a completely different caliber of audience energy for a home meet- beam was of course disappointing but I do think it’s a necessary experience to push this program.

For Maryland, I know people from all over the East Coast made the trip to see UCLA. The ease of getting to College Park from all the major east coast metro areas made it a very attractive meet. I'd be shocked if they come anywhere close to that attendance again this season.

It’s unique to this one meet as it’s unlikely we’ll get another UCLA at Maryland meet before Jordan is done. I think any future UCLA at Maryland meet would draw less a crowd without the Olympian buzz. I saw videos of girls freaking out they got to meet Jordan as she walked over to the stands.

I meant more that it’s good for Maryland to experience these higher profile situations when/if they come. The team’s article about the meet, for example, is highly positive in tone compared to what actually happened at the meet. It’s a spotlight the program just doesn’t experience, and I hope it lights a fire for them to aspire to get into that next tier.

Without Neff, Utah ALMOST gets the first 198 of the season, and improves their highest score so far from a 197.3 to a 197.95.

All 4 teams at the meet hit season highs by quite a bit, so I'm gonna assume the judging was a bit lalaland.

Not a bit. Completely in Lala land.

And it's a shame because Utah had a very good performance - they didnt need impossible scores to put up a good total. Or have every routine score the exact same despite glaring differences in quality.

Poppy Stickler (Utah) was back in a boot and using a scooter at the meet. Not sure when she got re-injured- her beam and floor looked great at their exhibition in December.

It also reminds me of how impressive the international athletes are. Moving to another country at 18 and then if you get injured, not having your parents or support system anywhere close by.

Welcome back 2024 scoring! That meet was pretty crazy judging. 9.9s for everyone!
