I know these are 4 of the top teams, but scores are flying at the Sprouts quad Saturday session 1. Feel like this is not the judging pen I saw last week.

That's disappointing. After last week I was hoping I might be able to stomach NCAA this year instead of just watching select routines. I want to like it, but I just can't with the judging.

Except the Rudi immediately layout step out was 93-96 not 1992. LMAO.

I have a theory that judges were expected to send out the high scores because it was a high profiled meet. Also, session 2 was on ABC, so maybe encouraged to push the 10 because that is what attracts the casual viewer.

I think she just says it to sound knowledgeable about the sport.

It just doesn’t ring true. Why would she be obsessed with Barcelona rather than Atlanta? Where was she getting VHS tapes of Barcelona from in the early 00s without being deeeep into the gymnternet?

She was born in 1994. She was 2 in Atlanta. 6 in Sydney. 10 in Athens.

Yeah, but Atlanta was such a huge deal it was the sort of thing that people kept VHS of and the mag 7 were household names well into the 00s

I wore out the 92 tape I made from the television. My first VCR! i bought the triplecast later. Those were the best compulsory exercises to me.

Maybe Aly got tapes later? Sarah Shire’s mother would get tapes for her.

Week 2 Vibes:

Isn't this fun? No worries here: OU, LSU
Room for improvement, but where we want to be: Cal, Denver, Mizzou, Auburn, Mich State, Utah
First meet is like preseason, working it out: UF, Arkansas, Kentucky, Georgia
First meet is like preseason, I told you so, all good: UCLA
First meet is like preseason, Right? I might be a little worried: Michigan
First meet is like preseason, and we are locked in: Alabama

I haven't been able to see everyone like Oregon State or Stanford compete, but in general at 2 weeks, and 2 competitions (for some), it is pretty obvious, it is LSU and OU and then a decent gap. LSU is probably the only team with so much depth that they could sideline someone like Bryant and still top everyone except OU. Michigan fans might be concerned with 2 inconsistent meets, a lot to work on there if they want to make this season more than just another rebuild. UCLA on the other hand showed when they are locked in and hitting, they can score pretty high. Now they have to be consistent from week to week. Georgia had a beam explosion but otherwise did well, Florida had a floor explosion but otherwise did well. Bama impressed with a nice mix of upper and lower-classmen contributing (I am a big fan of that coaching staff). Does anyone have any other take-aways from week 2?

There was also a VHS tape on the Mag 7 that came out after Atlanta. I still have mine. It's possible she could have watched that. Still have my Gymnastics Greatest Stars VHS too.
