He's capable of doing this for an 8.8-9.0, which will put him in medal contention at almost any event. He caught the Jaeger unusually close — playing it too safe, I think. And, the minute he drops that Healy to el-grip, his score goes up 0.3 immediately. A little cheesy to count a giant, but...

And on top of that, there's video after video of him hitting a perfect angle on the half-Tak. He was a bit off here.

Based on what happened with Australia Gymnastics, I do wonder if Thorpe plans to specialize on floor and high bar and try to get a nominative spot on one of these events to avoid not being selected to compete at Worlds.
