She changed her name altogether. It's written with two completely different ideographs. I'm not really sure why. Maybe the new name symbolizes her hope for a fresh start as a first-year senior. ("Zhuo" means "outstanding," and "xi" means "hope.") She was brilliant in 2021-22, but a serious ankle injury derailed the rest of her junior career.

WAG results from qualifications. I added the translations of the names. Qiu Qiyuan is still recovering from the elbow surgery she had over the winter. She is competing but didn't do UB, fell on her beam dismount, and watered down her floor so you won't see her in these results. The team event here serves as a qualifier for the National Games this November so she was mostly here to help her province qualify a team (they did, Fujian qualified in 6th.)

In general, I find Chinese domestic competitions much more exciting than any international event. Maybe it's because the Chinese WAG consistently break my heart whenever they compete overseas.

I refuse to become invested in any Chinese gymnast. I admire then, sometimes root for them, but I never favorite them. Too frustrating. My mental health demands I keep my distance.

From 1996-2008 China was my favourite team but I share these sentiments. Intra-team I feel that their gymnastics has also lost some distinctiveness. I’ll caveat this by saying I haven’t paid as much attention to them as I used to though.
