I'm not sure what this person is being paid. I doubt California will make any guarantees about anything. They have the highest athletic department debt in the NCAA.

Women's gymnastics does get on TV, so that helps. I just hope they don't really suck, because that could pull the men down with them. Which happened in 2011.

Maybe she has other reasons to move to California.

The MAG coach is likely to be someone who is already there. That should be announced very soon.

The men's team is not competitive because it doesn't have the full compliment of scholarships, but Cal let it live because it has a big donor base and doesn't cost much.

If there is no women's team, who knows.

It is at least a head coach role at a former Pac 12 and current ACC school. It will look good on her resume, and I know GSE wants to remain in NCAA coaching, so this is a good move for her regardless. My question is if she keeps the two assistant coaches. If I were her I would and get to hire the third assistant.

Carney has a good deal of experience and would be someone to help her acclimate to the position. Only problem could be if Carney went for the head coach position and they chose GSE instead. I am sure being a 2 time NCAA team champion member and 2 time event final winner (FX, BB) helped her out. She had 11 years of being assistant coach at Minnesota. She coached Lindsey Mable, Lexy Ramler, and Mya Hooten, excellent NCAA athletes.
