Shannon Miller: My Child, My Hero by Claudia Miller

Lol, right?! It's England in 1993. Guessing it wasn't exactly a cornucopia of dragon fruit, kumquats, and lychees.

    NCAA In-State recruit anaylsis

This isn't quite the tabl;e we were asking for, but it does expand on the previous post regarding in-state recruits. https://collegegymnews.com/2025/09/04/data-deep-dive-hometown-heroes/

Oh, good memory! I forgot those individuals worlds had endless sessions.

Shannon Miller: My Child, My Hero by Claudia Miller

I don't want to derail this thread, but Kerri post 1992 is a ride. You're right, Bela retired, and she first opted to go to Brown's in Florida. Then Dynamo, then back to Arizona where Artur Akopiyan would sometimes fly in and coach her. Then the short stint at Colorado Aerials, and finally back...

First, thank you for typing that out, and the extensive summaries! Maybe men's was earlier, as you suggest. I'm stumped. Or the whole Olympics was a whirlwinds and years later while writing it all blurred together for Claudia. Did not expect a reference to Eileen Diaz!

I wonder what Claudia actually meant by watching the earlier rounds of AA final. There was only one, to my recollection. I wonder if she was confusing it with team optionals.

Pulling Shannon from optionals at 1992 nationals, over Shannon's protests, might be the only thing I've ever agreed with Nunno on.

Shannon Miller: My Child, My Hero by Claudia Miller

My guess? She thought this was normal. Maybe sometimes Nunno crossed the line, but this behavior is just how great gymnastics coaches act. Perhaps she looks back on it now with a "oh my god, this was insane, what were we thinking?!" but at the time, this was all so normalized. The irony of it...

British WAG and MAG talk 2025

It is most certainly Jess. Jen tore her ACL in February and isn't there. Speaking of Gadirovas and ACL repairs..... I'm concerned that Jess is never going to return to anything approaching her pre-injury self. It's been nearly two years and she's still not back on all 4 events. And the two she...

    NCAA Tiana at UCLA early

Her Instagram says her ankle is still very sensitive and its best that she go to UCLA now and rehab it before the season starts.

Heather Brink was a Nunno gymnast. I don't think any of his other elites were homegrown. IIRC, all those little juniors he had following Barcelona were transfers. ETA: I swear Nunno coached at Karolyis in the 1980s. But maybe I'm wrong.

    NCAA In-State recruit anaylsis

Usually I find the CGN data analysis a bit weak, but this on is actually interesting and a bit fun (for me, at least). They analyzed what percentage of gymnasts over the last 10 years were in-state recruits for each school. It's presented on a map with the bigger the circle, the bigger the...
