The wolf has been with us since the 70s if not earlier. My favourites were those who had a smooth and pretty exit rather than some of the awkward transitions you see today
Maria Filatova in 1977 (extra points for the bows)
Anca Grigoras in 1976 - rather underated for a) being older and b)...
She always had that quality. This is her aged 11 competing in London in 1980 although I'm pretty sure this is the Coca Cola International and not Champions All
So sad that Mostepanova never got the recognition that she deserved because of the boycott.
And I remain grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr to this day that Onodi gets the credit for Mostepanova's signature move. The bb competition would have been greatly enhanced by this routine.
The USSR had Yurchenko, Mostepanova and Shushunova for vault, then there was Gnauck who was right up there.
On FX Mostepanova, Shushunova, Yurchenko, Gnauck, Ricna and Stoyanova were all big contenders.
I'll be interested to see how Roberson looks as her easier NCAA vaults have not been so impressive and looked a bit flat (seemed a bit stuck in the 9.75-9.85 range) and I think vt was her lowest personal best score in 2025.
They do seem to be.
At Euros they got Ana Barbosu into the medals in the UB final and Rom beat France on UB in TF.
Romania could have won bronze in TF if Voinea hadn't scratched VT - even a fugly dty would have done it - she only needed 13.3.
