Svetlana Khorkina
Yurchenko 1.5, 99 Worlds, 01 Worlds
Round off half-on 1.5, 01 Worlds
Front pike Cuervo, 94 Worlds
Tsuk, 96 Olympics compulsory vault (does that count!)
It's going to be a much shorter list if we don't count compulsories!

Khorkina is who I was thinking of when I brought this up yesterday. She and Tweddle are the only ones I could think of who've done the WAG Big 4.

Did Omelianchik ever do a Yurchenko entry, anyone? She of course did her own, and the compulsory vault in 81-84 was a FHS then in 85 it was Tsuk entry.

Yes, Omelianchik competed a tucked Yurchenko-full in 1985 and 1986.

(Edited to add a few videos and maybe be a little cool.)

Talavera did handspring front 1/2, Tsuks, and Yurchenkos, plus would have had the 1980 compulsory 1/2 on, 1/2 off.

Yurchenko at 1984 Olympics

Yurchenko was doing Tsuks before introducing her vault. Not sure if she ever had an optional handspring entry, but would have had the 1980 and 1984 compulsories to add two more.

Tsuks at 1979 Moscow News

To fill in some early compulsory vaults:
  • 1976: Yamashita
  • 1980: 1/2 on, 1/2 off
  • 1984: handspring, 1/1 off

The renowned vaulter, Ludmilla Yezhova, may be the only gymnast to be able to say “vaulting? Completed it, mate”.

I just need to double check by dropping into conversation with my colleagues “hey, guys, does anyone remember was the junior compulsory vaults were 1993-1996?”

The only gymnast who could make vaulting camp.

Her 2001 all around vaults were ones for the ages.

Comaneci competed three entries in optionals: Tsuk, handspring, and the infamous 10 vault of the 1981 University Games (not sure if she was going for 3/4 or 1/1 on), plus the 1/2 on, 1/2 off compulsory.

Handspring front 1/2 and handspring front at 1979 Euros

Yezhova

1996 Canberra cup: handspring front 1/2

1997 GBR v RUS: Yurchenko layout (guys this is in my actual childhood gym! which was normally a rhythmic gym hence all the wooden flooring and a distinct lack of mats)

2001 Worlds: Tucked Omelianchik. I want to say this is called an Ivancheva

I believe that the vault required for juniors in national compulsories in Russia 1993-1996 was a piked Tsuk. So she would have competed this at some point.

In 2000 she competed a handspring full on, full off (no salto).

I think she last competed vault in 2003 when her vault was a piked luconi

Ouch. Yurchenko's first Tsuk is frighteningly similar to the one that nearly destroyed her knees in '83 EF. The second one isn't much better.

Leave it to Khorkina to show up in a discussion like this!

Let's only count them if they have saltos OR at least 2 full twists. Otherwise, everyone in the mid 80 has probably done 4. :p James May would be "other"! I wouldn't even call that a vault. No repulsion phase!

I am wondering if Carey ever competed a front entry vault. The Cheng, Kasamatsu, and Yurchenko entries were all at high level of difficulty. Maybe that's another thread (3 hard vaults from different families)

I swear Ezhova did a handspring double twist at 2001 worlds, but that's purely memory. I can't find any video of her vaulting that, and maybe I never actually saw it. Quite possible I only read about it.

Equally possible my memory is wildly wrong and I'm just imagining the whole thing.

I think it’s technically 6?

Vaults without saltos
Handspring entry
Tsukahara entry
Yurchenko entry
Omelianchik entry
Luconi entry
On the one hand, this bolsters Ezhova's case. On the other hand, I tend to agree with Denn we probably need a minimum floor here, so I'm disinclined to count the vault without salto. Open to persuasion!
