It will be interesting to see if they are able to quickly establish themselves as a top school because they're the only one in Texas, or if they struggle because they lack being the state flagship, lack the big football culture, etc. that top recruits often seem to be looking for.

They're ranked in the 200s. The admission rate is close to 90%.

Like many (but not all) schools with "State" in their name, it began as a teacher training college. Their most famous alumni is none other then former president Lyndon B. Johnson. It was known as Southwestern Texas State until 2003, when it was renamed Texas State University.

I don't think they will get elites, but they may get level 9s/10s that would be interested in staying in state.

I think what Texas State has going for them is they are going to be part of the new PAC-12, granted it is no longer the prestigious Power 5 conference any longer. So there isn't the factor of competing against UCLA, Utah, Cal, Stanford and even Arizona and ASU.

I think that had Texas State had been a few years earlier, someone like Josc Roberson might have signed with them, as her father was outspoken about no D1 teams in Texas and Texan gymnasts being forced to leave the state for D1 scholarship.

Comparing them to the last school to add a gymnastics team - Clemson spends more on football then Texas State spends on their whole athletic department.

It's great for the state of Texas but they wont have the money or comparable resources to be a top program.
