assuming Rivera is a lock for major teams under most circumstances.
Are we assuming that? She has had 1 good senior year (where she was basically just a filler spot on the olympic team and only there because Trials decimated the other contenders) and one inconsistent post-oly year ended by injury. Sure, she started well this year, but she can be a lock if she gives us 2 more strong years and not before. ;)

Hezly Rivera

Last year junior: National Champion
1st year senior: Olympian
2nd year senior: National Champion
3rd year senior: Undefeated AA so far

So why wasn’t Wong on the team? Or Roberson, or Sumanasekera, or Lincoln? Or anyone else that Rivera outscored. You talk as if she was literally the last gymnast standing in the country, but she absolutely earned her spot on that team when she hit every event across Nationals and Trials.

I got nothing against her but we all know the star Juniors often fizzle when they get to Senior level. She also had a 12th place finish at US Classic last year and was beaten by Hang at the PanAm Champs. She's only 17, her family is nuts, and she trains at WOGA; I'm not putting my money on her juuuust yet. Definitely not enough to "lock" her in anywhere. She wasn't the last gymnast standing, just the best of the last.

(Leanne has been eternally GAGEd. She makes teams when there aren't other options because, other than that Cheng we saw, she's got nothing that sets her apart. But lets not pretend we all wanted Hezly on the Olympic Team over Blakely or Jones or even DiCello. That said, it was easy to sideline Hezly to let the other 4 have their premiere events to shine in, Jones vs Lee (vs Chiles?) getting the 2nd AA spot would have been a thing we could argue for the next 30 years)

Bullock upgraded her vault to a DTY?? That;s great!
See, this is why I'm gonna shut up and trust that some of these coaches actually know what they're doing re: pacing their athletes. I hadn't even considered Bullock was capable of a double, but here she is with a double that looks solid. My perspective on the future of USA gym has changed so much in the last 24 hours lol.

I think last year was definitely a wake up call.

The score inflation she's getting implies she is the chosen star of the quad.

I really hope Simone Rose gets a redo on beam at Pan Ams, because the new routine has a really high scoring potential if she can hit.

Rivera AA
Pease AA
Bullock AA
Richardson VT UB
Rose BB FX
Rose has competed three different acro series this year so far on beam (side aerial LOSO, fhs front tuck, and bhs LOSO LOSO) and now the latter two are both in her routine.
