Did he?What was that phrase that Bela used to shout randomly at his gymnasts - something like "smooth it on down"?
Does anyone know what that even meant?

Yes! We should also remember Annie Fogerty's astute observation following Donna Strauss' rant: "I think she was...mad?"We must not forget the infamous "quitters try" (kwitters try) for half-assed attempts at skills from the infamous Parkettes documentary where gymnasts were berated with the phrase when the coaches deemed they weren't trying hard enough!
I say this regularly and wish more people understood why it's funny."Oh that's too bad"
I still say this today!"Oh that's too bad"
I used this gif at work earlier today"Oh that's too bad"
I've got a bunch of them from a former forum, but most are not relevant anywhere else or they didn't age well. I always liked BITCHFACE, though. We don't see too many gymnasts with really impressive bitchface now.
Whenever a gymnasts has an extremely bouncy landing or runs out of their landing on vault or floor, I always say they "Bilesed" the landing.
p.s. I also regularly use "oh, that's too bad".
I coined it. I think in 2007.I believe the term Gymternet started on this board.
Of all the neologisms coined on gym boards, this is the one that spread the farthest and will probably last the longest.I coined it. I think in 2007.
I think I originally spelled it with an extra n, though. Gymnternet
