I'm new and just joined Gymnaverse because this seems to be the only place people have serious discussions about it. I have a Gymcastic subscription and this came up during BTS, in which the style was more of a closed-door casual sharing session - some people on R had been treating this as a 'journalistic reporting' which is ridiculous but this was how Jessica started:
'The rumor that we had heard (about Sabrina's Antwerp vault) ... I've not been able to independently confirm but I have been told by 3 sources specifically that was intentional to sabotage the team' 'I never reported before because I hadn't been able to independently verify it from sources.' 'It's a hard thing to prove so I'm hesitant to say about this but it becomes more plausible after I see what happens recently'

To me - this is an utterly impossible to verify claim because Sabrina would be the only person in the world that actually knew what happened, regardless of whether Camelia had accidentally expressed or revealed this intention to the team about it or not.
Thanks for setting out the wording.

It's vague, likely on purpose. I'd be surprised if someone in Jessica's position would just make this up, so I expect there are 3 different sources. But 3 people who witnessed a discussion between the two at the time and came forward independently would obviously be really different to Camelia having told Person A this later on, who repeated it to Person B, who repeated it to Person C. Or even Person A having surmised this/made it up and then Persons B, C and D having truthfully reported what Person A told them.

I suspect the majority wouldn't put it past Camelia if she thought it was doable and in Sabrina's interest. So it's more about the practicalities. Looking at who was still to compete, it was more likely than not that Sabrina wasn't going to be passed for that spot if she were eligible. But things like mid routine injuries in big teams, people bombing qualifications and judges getting weirdly loose in later rotations do happen. It also raises the question of why not throw beam too.

But again, is this stupid and did it happen are two different questions. I'm going to continue to withhold judgement. Agree we can't treat this as journalistic reporting.

"Denisa and Sabrina can no longer train in the same gym." FRG President Ioan Suciu came up with answers regarding the gymnastics scandal

The scandal within the Romanian women's gymnastics team continues, and Orange Sport spoke directly with the federation's president, Ioan Suciu.

At the end of last month, upon returning home from the World Championships in Indonesia, Denisa Golgotă complained about the treatment she was subjected to in the gym by one of her training colleagues, Sabrina Voinea .

Just two weeks after these revelations, Orange Sport discussed with the president of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation, Ioan Suciu, about the harassment scandal within the Romanian team.

You had a meeting of almost four hours with gymnast Denisa Golgotă, after the incendiary statements she made upon returning to the country from the World Championships in Indonesia. What were the conclusions after this meeting?
Ioan Suciu: I had this discussion with Denisa, after the statements made upon arrival from the World Championships, and of course things, from her point of view, took on a bit of a personal upset. Rightly so, let's say. But I also explained to Denisa that it made no sense, and she understood, and we all understood, all of us who were at the discussion, that it made no sense to spoil things before the World Championships, which, by the way, I had said before. It was supposed that, after this World Championships, we would look very seriously at the issue and discuss it at the Executive Committee level. And what I concluded in the discussion with Denisa is, indeed, a disciplinary commission case. It is true that, in the meantime, we have also received a document from Sabrina Voinea that we will also judge in a first phase, discuss it - let's not be so harsh in our expression - discuss it within the Executive Committee, and then send the cases together to the Disciplinary Committee.

We have some information that we would like you to confirm or deny. I understand that you also summoned Sabrina to this meeting, in an attempt to mediate the situation. However, the athlete did not respond to this summons. How do you comment on this?
Ioan Suciu: No, no, no. Wait a moment. I did not summon Sabrina to that discussion. It was only about Denisa. We were going to discuss it with Sabrina, so that later we could put their information together. So, no, this confrontation was not discussed, if you want me to put it that way.

A decision was made for the moment that the coach should be called to the disciplinary committee. Do you maintain this position of calling Mrs. Voinea to the disciplinary committee?
Ioan Suciu: Once again, I repeat: it was an internal discussion, and the Executive Committee will, in turn, make this decision. In this case, neither the president, nor the general secretary, nor the restricted board of the federation can make it. We will present this case to the Executive Committee, so that, following the Executive Committee, the case will go to the Disciplinary Committee. The cases, in fact. Because already, following Sabrina's documents, we have two situations that, for sure, we will also listen to Sabrina, and, later, both cases will go to resolution.

But will Coach Voinea also be heard?
Ioan Suciu: We will have a discussion with Mrs. Voinea, for sure. Once again, I repeat: I cannot express myself, as president, that I will send the case to the Disciplinary Commission. We are talking about an Executive Committee that will make this decision. But, for the most part, after what has been discussed, there is only one direction: the Disciplinary Commission. But, I repeat, we need a validation of the Executive Committee.

We also have information that, during the meeting, when Denisa had to explain again the reasons that led to the filing of that complaint to the Gymnastics Federation, she burst into tears, due to the seriousness of the facts that she had noticed. How serious do you think those facts are, if they are true?
Ioan Suciu: Certainly. For now, we cannot express ourselves whether they are true, because we do not have a final conclusion from the Disciplinary Commission, on the one hand. On the other hand, Denisa's anger certainly flared up on the spot, in this direction. And, indeed, Denisa could not control herself. But, in the end, the discussions were in a constructive sense. We all understood that things were not right, but, once again, I repeat and emphasize this: we could not spoil the preparation before the World Championship, because irregularities were reported on both sides. Following that, after the end of the World Championship, we will look very seriously at the issues and solve them, obviously.

Are you thinking of making a single batch, under a single leadership of a coordinating coach? What will be the strategy?
Ioan Suciu: There have been discussions in this regard, but, likewise, I cannot express to you one way or another that it will be under a single leadership or that we will continue in the same form, because we have not had a final analysis of the Executive Committee, having only the reports received from the main coaches, and following that, in the analysis that we will have in the Executive Committee, we will make a decision to streamline our activity in the next period of time.

Will Denisa and Sabrina be able to train in the same gym from now on?
Ioan Suciu: I will answer you directly: certainly not. We want an efficient, peaceful training structure, so that next year we can form a core of strength in representing the Romanian team. It is true that next year the girls will have no choice: they have to compete together and form a team, but, at the moment, the general conclusion was that they can no longer train together.

Mr. Forminte's name is being circulated, that he could take over the leadership of the group..
Ioan Suciu: Let's not create hypotheses, because that's not the case. We didn't have the discussion in the Executive Committee and I don't think it's appropriate to release names.

There have been other complaints against the Romanian Gymnastics Federation from other gymnasts. Will you call them in for a discussion, as happened with Denisa Golgotă?
Ioan Suciu: I don't know which gymnasts you're talking about. Tell me if you know.

Mihăescu, Ceplinschi, who also filed complaints, just like Denisa. In fact, there is only one complaint, with four signatures.
Ioan Suciu: They were together and, of course, they will be analyzed together, obviously. But Denisa, having the major load, we took them one by one and we will discuss each one individually.

What is the financial situation of the Gymnastics Federation?
Ioan Suciu: I like to be optimistic, as I always have been, and it is a difficult period, really, for everyone. Not only for gymnastics. At the national level it is a difficult stage, but I am convinced that, by using a lot of tact and precise analysis, we will manage to overcome this situation and manage with what we have.
