I must be the grinch, I got an 8.1 on first glance (no pen though, just counting in my head). The camera angle was truly awful for some of it though, so at least .4 of that was "I think this is the angle/height" on some of the splits/tumbles, and I cannot verify it without a better angle of view.

I get an overall impression that her skills have soft knees and feet but her choreography has tight knees and feet.

Height deductions are nebulous in the first place since there are no rules about what actually constitutes a height deduction for FX elements. Nor is it something I want to be strictly codified into a "one size fits all" kind of thing. A petite leap can be choreographically sound, just as a big one can. Totally depends on how it's being used.

I think the men's team could be contenders for a bronze team medal. From the women, Crystelle could make the Beam final.
Crystelle has upgraded a lot on bars but was struggling with a hand injury earlier this year. She could potentially make the bars final but that will probably be the most competitive final to get into.

Who is in the mix for Wales? Ruby Evans, Emily Roper, Abi Roper, Grace Davies? Who else?

Jemima Taylor and Frances Stone are Welsh athletes. I think Jemima is most likely to round out the team.

A height deduction on floor where's there's no apparatus as a frame of reference is just a nightmare of subjective judging, especially with the bad angle judges have most of the time. Some double layouts are going to be higher than other double layouts, but the code isn't tenable if it attempts to claim that a skill must be the superlative of its kind (in what time frame? compared to whom?) in order to avoid deduction.

The idea of "rise" happening out of the leap or acro element -- which would be a question of technique but not absolute height -- makes more sense to me. For some skills, it seems to me like if you can complete the saltos or twists sufficiently without a chest position/major landing deduction then obviously you did have the rise you needed.

Combination front saltos are probably most likely to incur this problem, which often dont rise precisely because the timing/angle was off in the salto that preceded it. But again, that's not exactly a question of 'height' per se. Side note: I am really tired of hearing that the second salto 'must rise higher than the first' in NCAA judging, because A) obviously judges ignore that when they feel like it and B) this rule doesn't really make universal sense, because I think it's perfectly reasonable that Kaitlyn Ohashi's 2.5 twist is going to be higher in the air than the punch front she does out of it. Anyway. /

They're having quite a mixed bag of an outing in Koper thus far. Yeolshin-Cash hasn't made the PH final but Joshua Nathan did.

For the WAG, Taeja's made the vault final and floor. Leat is also having a good one, she got 13.2 on floor and is in the beam final too. But GMF only got 11.833. No fall afaik but pauses, just looks rusty. Some skills here.

They have CWG selection in the next couple of weeks, and on recent evidence, even with England struggling she doesn't appear ready.

Koper has finished. For WAG, Taeja got silvers on vault and floor, Alia Leat 3rd on beam and floor. And Joshua Nathan bronze on pommels.

England WAG Commonwealth team selection meeting is on Tuesday the 2nd, MAG isn't til the week later, both scheduled to be announced on the 17th. I think this weekend probably cemented Leat and James. It was also good for Becky, since GMF isn't ready. My guess is those three plus Abi Martin and probably Amankwaah. That's a strong floor lineup, but they'll probably count a weak routine on the other three events. 3rd bars worker will be gnarly. As CWG is 5-4-3, I would think they sit out Becky on vault and floor, Taeja on bars since she doesn't even compete it and probably Amankwaah on beam.
