Any insight on why Donnell Whittenburg wasn't selected? His rings on the live stream looked great, I think he nearly broke 15. Maybe he didn't do any other events?

I think he is just coming back from some kind of leg or foot injury.

He only did two events. I'm guessing that the math made more sense to take Patty Hoopes (also two events) than Donnell

I didn't see the stream. Hoopes can do PB, but not to the level the US would take him for that event. Whittenburg is way better, as is everyone else who is going.

If they just took the highest scoring team, the math probably worked out so that Hoopes is on the highest scoring team with PH alone.

These PH specialists can get 15+, which is hard to do on other events (at least for Americans).

Really for anyone. Very few people get over 15 on ANY event besides PH, really.

Brody Malone and Tang Chia-Hung on high bar

That sound about right. In the NCAA season that just finished, only PH specialists score over 15.

The way the US does its selection almost guarantees the high scoring team has a PH specialist on it (assuming they hit). They also are more likely to have D scores that get the USAG bonus.
