Remarkable story.
After finishing 7th in shot put at the 2023 European Athletics Team Championships, Jolien Boumkwo had completed her competition, or so she thought.
After injuries to the Belgium’s hurdles athletes, Belgium risked facing disqualification if they did not enter the event. So Boumkwo stepped up and competed, finishing last by more than 19 seconds behind the 7th place finisher. However, she did earn Belgium two points. Belgium ended up finishing in 14th behind Greece though so they get bumped from first division to second division.
What a story of perseverance, teamwork, and passion though.
