This particular Youtube content creator specializes in random and often misleading compilations of gymnastics videos that they just lift from instagram and recycle with almost no regard for chronology. And yet... their click-baity titles always get me, so they know what they're doin'.
Sticks are one of the most exciting exclamation points on an acro skill, to the point that even NCAA gymnasts will hold their occasional stuck tumbling pass with emphasis even though it supposedly doesn't matter in that context.
Thus, if you can "save" a stick with an arm circle or upper...
Cant really argue with her win, that's about as definitive as it gets, but for whatever reason I really prefer Yaqin's routine to ZQY.
The result I would argue is that Sugihara should have been the clear silver medal over Nemour.
Flavia is nice on beam, but she hasnt really kept up the pace. Nemour and Sugihara out-choreo'd her, Amanda Yap's switch ring is just as good, and she doesnt have any difficult acro on the beam (She used to do a harder series, anyway).
I actually fuck with Sabrina on beam and would not be mad if she got a bronze or something. She kinda moves like Vanessa Atler on that routine. Oh well.
I'm not a huge fan of the requirements of the artistry checklist on beam, but Sugihara is really giving us choreo on the apparatus -- as hyped as Flavia is on the event for execution I don't really see these routines being comparable in that regard.
That was fantastic.
