I was such a big Uzelac fan when I was younger.
She never really put it together as a senior, but she had unique and interesting gymnastics on just about every event:
Vault: Khorkina ii
Bars: perfect toe-on 1.5 pirouette
Beam: Bhs + pike full combo
Floor: Only saw her compete this once, but as...
Moceanu's comeback really made this a bigger event than it would normally be, for me this was the defining international gymnastics event from that quad prior to the olympics.
I love Produnova but it's curious to me that despite completing one of the hardest vaults ever, it's interesting to me...
Hate to read between the lines, but since there aint much else to talk about, why not?! If i were psychoanalyzing this post I'd say that symbolically / cheekily "retiring" a single high-risk gymnastics skill is very very different than retiring from gymnastics and somewhat implies the opposite.
The helpdesk language that @onodian posted is still terrible, because it only mentions inquiring about time or OOB deductions, there's nothing about a categorical "ND" inquiry. And then, when a gymnast receives marks in the ND category, it remains a mystery because how are we supposed to know...
Yeah see this is some bullshit too that you have to pick what you inquire about. The routine is being re-evaluated by another panel of judges - if they have the right to further reduce your D score they should also be taking the time to correct objective judging errors like a wrong neutral...
Anyone have any idea how Voinea's inquiry (re: out of bounds) was rejected? How did that part get summarily dismissed when everyone seems to agree Voinea is the rightful 13.800 bronze?
Yeah, some folks are probably more empathetic than I am... but from where I'm sitting, she was lucky to make it onto the team in the first place, and got the chance of a lifetime and a gold medal to boot. I don't think she earned a place in TF just so she could feel good. It's a sport. :)
The way Simone's been scoring, it would be extremely possible - even likely - to see the very dissatisfying outcome of her beating Andrade with a fall on the YDP. That scenario is less likely to happen if Andrade does the TTY. But yes, Simone will probably still win gold if she doesnt fall and...
Disagree... she literally just showed today that it's not just vault keeping her in first. Andrade's Cheng scored higher and Simone won by over 3 tenths.
There's really no downside to the YDP though -- her score with a fall should still beat her Cheng score. She went 15.8/14.8 in TQ on those...
I actually return to my prediction that Andrade beats Simone on either vault or floor in finals. I didn't realize she got a 14.200 today (??) versus a 13.900 in qualifying. I'll have to watch side-by-side, but she had tons of landing errors today... the judges are definitely willing to give her...
I'm happy with the podium results in that I think they perfectly reflect the quality of these Olympic teams. I'd have USA > Italy > Brazil in a power ranking based on their selections. Unfortunately I would have to put China #4 because I can't just ignore how predictable their inconsistency is...
