Gator Nation Football Podcast
Pretty interesting podcast where they interviewed the Gators Athletic Director. Roughly the first hour of the podcast is all about the settlement and how UF and broader collegiate landscape is handling it. A couple of things that I heard:
If I heard it...
Who the heck knows, but I love how everyone (including me) seems to so easily project themselves, their biases, their own opinions on someone they dont even know. Just because YOU think its a horrible inconvenience doesnt mean someone else doesnt see it as not that big of a deal. I mean...
You can get to Hartsfield Airport from Auburn or Georgia in about 1:30-45. Florida to Orlando International is about 1:30-45 drive. I wouldnt consider those excessively challenging. Especially when you consider bay area traffic, you still are looking at least 45 minutes travel to SFO. But...
For sure, that's why I am saying she is taking on not only a monumental task of almost a total rebuild (both the 2025 and 2026 classes are almost empty), but the huge risk of uncertainty around the longevity of the program. If I was a coach, that risk better be factored into either compensation...
Idk, color me skeptical, not in her ability to be a great head coach, but in Cal's overall commitment to the program. Cant wait to see the contract they gave her, because she is taking on a lot of risk. Even if the program wasn't in jeopardy of being cut, she almost has to get bodies for 2025...
I really think not much is going to change this first year plus or minus. There are too many new and unknowns, so I can see many athletic departments keeping the athletics side of things frozen in place while they see what type of new revenue sources they can come up with before having to...
I think the lack of action, even just a statement from the Cal athletic department is just telling recruits "we are shutting the program down". They may not have anyone in the 2026 class
Scholarship money and revenue money are different. Revenue money is more akin to NIL than scholarship. It is money that gets paid directly to the athlete. Now the athlete could turn around and use it to pay tuition but it is not considered a scholarship that is funded by the athletic...
I think this is the continued march toward the haves (SEC. Big10) and the have-nots (All other conferences). The haves will fund up to the roster limit of those scholarships. They will be more attractive to athletes and we will see more girls that will fill the benches.
