2017 was just absolutely wild. The amount of injuries sustained in podium training, (Andrade, too! she was a favorite along with Smith and Iordache), let to the most unlikely AA podium ever. Morgan Hurd had some of the most insanely good and insanely bad luck in her career.
Sure, that doesn’t mean it makes any sense, however, especially in a post Olympic year when many athletes take time off.
Nor is it fair to athletes carrying an injury that would be completely healed by the time worlds came around.
This is just endlessly frustrating. How unbelievably short sighted to leave an athlete who has gone 55+ internationally this season at home.
Picking athletes for an October completion in May is just the dumbest system ever.
So what is the rationale behind capitulating to parents regarding elite? Isn’t it not profitable for a gym to coach elites? By saying no and having the parents go elsewhere, they’re not really losing money, or am I totally off base?
I agree that the 4 athletes are very cut and dry, but what if Roberson isn’t healthy? Who grabs her place? Sullivan? Or if they want 2 vaults, Pease?
Sullivan obviously makes more sense to me, but I wonder if Pease has a better chance of sneaking into an EF.
