Funny that the CW at the time was that Russia and USA were neck and neck going into the Olympics. Even if you take Russia’s highest scores across the week they only squeak by less than a tenth than USA’s TF score, and that’s with noticeably looser bars panels as the week went on.

I found Grace to be so mediocre and weirdly overhyped (those upgrades that everyone talked about that obviously were never going to materialize), but man was I thankful she kept Skinner off the main team.

The reason why we are seeing so many 2-pass routines is that judges are not applying deductions to dance elements.
I always forget that Laurie really wasn’t a notable Beamer until 2016. It was kind of hard to picture how she would fit into that Rio team until she randomly started stacking hit cold beam sets for mid 15s.
